Our Story
Global Action 4 Mental Health was born from a simple but powerful idea: community can transform mental health care if the right resources are in place. Inspired by the success of Fountain House and the Clubhouse movement, our team saw the need for an adaptable model in low- and middle-income countries, where unemployment, poverty, and limited access to treatment create urgent challenges.

The spark for GA4MH began in 2018, when global mental health leaders and Kenyan advocates came together at the Healthier, Longer Lives conference, sponsored by WHO, Fountain House, and Columbia University. Our shared vision for locally driven, community-based care snowballed, and GA4MH was founded the following year.

Together with local partners, we opened the Bungoma Health Link Forum in Kenya in January 2024. Today, it serves over 200 members with peer-led recovery programs, daily support, and vital mental health resources.

Looking ahead, we are committed to scaling this model, empowering more communities worldwide with sustainable, locally led solutions for serious mental illness.
