Our Work
The evidence-based Fountain House model proved that a safe environment offering collaborative work and peer support promotes recovery in people with mental illness. Working with local leaders and mental health practitioners, Global Action 4 Mental Health (GA4MH) adapts this model to bring community-based mental health care to low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Co
Continued access to affordable psychiatric medications poses a significant problem in these areas, and new techniques for access are required for long-term success. Through our network of local guides and global connections, we build a sustainable approach to care with community-driven solutions.

Our Drive
Mental illness is a global crisis.
75% of mentally ill people in low-income countries never receive treatment
Limited funding, services, and trained professionals, leave millions without care
Community-based care is effective and affordable, bringing better treatment to more people in need.

Our Model
The Bungoma Health Link Forum (BHLF) piloted our approach to community-based mental health in low-income countries. Its success shows that community-based care centers thrive with the right support.

Based in Bungoma, Kenya, BHLF combines local expertise with innovative care models to help people with mental illness regain stability and belonging.
Purposeful Work
Members participate in the work-ordered day, supporting each other in accomplishing tasks like cleaning, gardening, landscaping, and cooking.
Peer Collaboration
Peers recognize strengths, congratulate success, and offer support. Collaboration cultivates a sense of purpose and belonging, reminding members that their diagnosis doesn't define them or the value they bring to the group.
Research-Backed
Rooted in the evidence-based Fountain House model, BHLF cultivates a positive culture of reciprocity and self-efficacy, promoting recovery in people living with mental illness.
